Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in restaurants, in the kitchen, and in food travel. Hope you enjoy!

Harvest Pizzeria

Harvest Pizzeria

Pizza is absolutely something that I eat excessively. I recently took a health and well-being survey that asked how many times I eat pizza per week; I blushed and put myself firmly in the “2-4 times” bucket. Low-key, it’s probably my favorite thing to eat and in the era of “one bite, everyone knows the rules,” pizza reviews are commonplace.

One of my favorite pizzas in Columbus is a little untraditional, a little spicy, and a lot Yum-ay. The Spicy Yuma from Harvest Pizzeria is served on a slightly charred crust that is doughy, but manages to attain the appropriate amount of crispy bite. It’s the perfect vessel for the gouda and havarti blend, chorizo, jalapeños, corn, roasted red peppers, and chipotle-spiked tomato sauce.

Although Harvest has several locations around the city, I frequent the original German Village location as a matter of convenience given my proximity. It’s a relatively small space with a gorgeous patio that doubles the size of the place when the weather is agreeable. They have a pretty spectacular lunch special from 11:00 - 4:00 where you can order (nay, steal) a 9” pizza for $8.50 and add a lunch-sized salad like the Mean Green or Kale Caesar for $2.50. I prefer the Mean Green with arugula, watercress, Napa & purple cabbage, toasted pepitas, pickled blueberries, snow peas, local sprout blend, and avocado green goddess dressing.

You’d be sorry to leave Harvest without trying one or two of their small plates. My two favorites are both of the cheese variety (are you surprised?), although I’ve heard good things about the Iron Skillet Brussels Sprouts and the Meatballs. First, the Melted Taleggio served with crusty ciabatta, seasonal mustardo (apricot compote the past few times I’ve had it), and truffled honey. The hearty bread and sweet honey are the perfect compliment for the melty cheese, it’s basically pizza before my entrée pizza and that’s the kind of app I can get behind. Second, the Pimento Cheese served with pepper & chive biscuits and bread & butter pickles. These small plates are meant for sharing, but I’m definitely not above keeping them all for myself.
